As one of the early high cultures in Italy, the Etruscans determined the fortune of the western Mediterranean region from the 10th to the 1st Century B. C. Recent archaeological research throws new light on this unique civilisation: a flourishing urban character and a varied everyday culture attest the wealth and the joy of life. Artworks with unconventional expressive power prove a love of the beauty.

Magnificent sanctuaries and monumental graves with colourful wall paintings as well as precious burial objects provide evidence of the piety of the Etruscans. Their unique identity also arises from encounters with other cultures of antiquity – for example with Phoenicians, Greeks, Celts or Romans.

The Badisches Landesmuseum, in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of Culture, is presenting an comprehensive portrait of the Etruscan culture. Spectacular exhibits, accompanied by true-to-life reconstructions and interactive digital features show a multi-faceted panorama of the Etruscan way of life.
