Cultural treasures, unique museums and open-air theatres

We’re very passionate about culture in the Rural District of Rastatt. The range of cultural attractions on offer is almost endless – from impressive palaces and castles to numerous monasteries and churches, various museums, and exciting theatre productions.

Visit the iconic palace at Rastatt – the first baroque residence on German soil built in the resembling the Palace of Versailles – and you will embark on a journey through the eventful history of the Rastatt Rural District. The staterooms with their ornate grandeur provide a glimpse at court life during the reign of Ludwig Wilhelm, the Margrave of Baden-Baden.

In contrast, the unique Unimog Museum in Gaggenau is a highlight of a very different kind. Here you’ll discover great engineering and experience technology in action thanks to the museum’s fascinating display, including vehicles from past decades, sectional models, pictures, films, and a collection of Unimog stories. You can even take a seat in a Unimog to be driven around an adventurous off-road track!

Lovers of show and theatre need to visit one of the many plays during Ötigheim’s amateur theatre season, taking place at Germany’s largest open-air theatre. Visitors of the annual horse races at the ‘Iffezheim International Racecourse’ will as well be treated to the excitement and flair of the ‘sport of kings’.
